Microsoft Announces 2-in-one Surface Laptop Studio – Details Inside

Microsoft recently made an announcement about a bunch of new improved Surface devices. The most stellar offering of all is the all-new Surface Laptop Studio. This latest offering functions both as a laptop and can also be folded into a tab.

The Surface Laptop Studio features a 14.4-inch, 2400×1600 resolution touchscreen with Dolby Vision support. The user can fold the display into three modes: studio, stage, and laptop.

The stage mode folds the display forward hiding the keyboard making it ideal for watching content or playing games. The studio mode allows the display to fold flat over the keyboard thereby turning it into a tablet which you can use for taking notes and for drawing purposes.

Priced at $1,600, pre-orders for Surface Laptop studio have already started. The device will be shipped from October 5th onwards.

The front camera has been updated to support 1080p video recording and the 10 MP camera on the back is capable of 4K recording. The Surface Pro 8 has dual far-field microphones, 2W speakers with Dolby Atmos.

The vice president of devices at Microsoft, Pete Kyriacou said, “Surface Laptop Studio is the most powerful Surface we’ve ever built”. He further added that the product is the culmination of years of Surface Innovation on display, hinges, silicon, and more. It brings the best of the Surface heritage together in one powerhouse device.

The most obvious change that this successor to Surface Book has received is the display and hinge. Microsoft has used the new flexible Dynamic Woven Hinge which is durable and allows a seamless transition between the modes.

Microsoft has moved a majority of the components to the base of the laptop. This will certainly improve the sturdiness of the laptop. The base also accommodates the Surface Slim Pen 2 which is sold separately. Intel’s quad-core 11th Gen Corei5 or Corei7 processors are available to power the Surface Laptop Studio.

The Core i5 models will feature Intel Iris Xe graphics whereas the i7 variants will feature RTX 3050 Ti GPU. The users will have options to choose between 16GB and 32GB of RAM and will also come with 2TB removable SSD storage.

All of the above-mentioned specifications have made Surface Laptop Studio is very capable of running the latest PC games. Despite the capabilities, Microsoft hasn’t promoted the Surface Book as a full gaming laptop. Just like Surface Pro 8, Microsoft has decided to move to Thunderbolt 4 on the Surface Laptop Studio.

The Thunderbolt support allows the users to transform this foldable device into a full gaming PC. However, for this, you will have to use an external GPU enclosure and external storage as well. You can also use the device to capture multiple 4K displays.
