Can the app provide peace of mind to AirPods owners?

If you own a pair of Apple AirPods or headphones or are planning to buy one in the future, then the latest Find My app will offer some peace of mind to music lovers. This is beneficial especially if you are using smaller devices such as earbuds that are quite easy to misplace.

The new update behaves in a similar fashion to Apple’s Air Tags which are small electronic devices you can attach to your valuable allowing them to show up in your Find My app. The latest AirPods firmware receiving the update implies that you will not have to spend money on Air Tags in case you lose your precious pods.

For benefiting from the latest features, you will have to update the AirPods to the just-released firmware. AirPods receive new updates over time and in the course of use. The new integration also implies that AirPods Pro and AirPods Max in the Find My network can send continuous Bluetooth beacon messages.

Whenever another Apple device is in the vicinity, then they can detect the signal and report it to the Find My network thereby offering the location of the product on the map. This is similar to how Air Tags works in a long-range.

When in close range of AirPods the users will be notified of the location. However, the directional arrows features of Air Tags have not been offered here as the AirPods currently do not include a U1 chip inside them.

The Air Tags interface uses a green theme whereas the AirPods version is blue hinting that it is not precise as the Air Tag’s ultra-wideband precision location capability.

If the AirPods have been picked up by someone else and have been paired with an iOS device, then the Lost Mode message will be shown to help them return the lost item to its original owner.

The new features are currently compatible with AirPods Max and AirPods Pro. Standard AirPods do not support these features. However, it is being expected that the upcoming generation of AirPods will certainly support these features.
