Google is Planning to Release its First Pixel Smartwatch by 2022

According to a person with knowledge of the situation and a new story from Insider, Google is finally working on its Pixel Smartwatch, which will ship in 2022.

Even though Google has been manufacturing its smartphones under the brand name Pixel for many years, the business has never released a smartwatch, despite Android having had a companion popular wearable platform since 2014.

It’s unclear whether the new upcoming Google watches will be called “Pixel Watch” at this point, but they will serve a similar function to the Pixel phones. Consumers and hardware partners will be able to see for themselves, as well as Google, what the company’s software is truly capable of when combined with the right hardware, according to Insider’s report.

What we know about the Google Smartwatch

A source at The Verge claims that the device will cost more than a Fitbit and will compete more directly with the Apple Watch in terms of price and functionality. With Wear OS 3, Google is re-imagining its smartwatch platform, formerly known as Wear OS. The new watch will include fitness functions such as a heart rate monitor and step tracking.

According to reports, Google is working on integrating Fitbit into Wear OS in time for introducing the new watch. It differs from earlier Wear OS (or Android Wear) versions in that it was developed in conjunction with Samsung, and it incorporates the Tizen mobile platform into Google’s Android platform.

The announcement of a Google-built smartwatch, on the other hand, is not wholly unexpected. According to a 2019 report, several years ago, Google was on the verge of releasing a “Pixel Watch.”

Original plans were for the Pixel brand to sell the LG Watch Sport and LG Watch Style, both of which were released in 2017. At the time of their first release, neither device left an impression on us.

Despite this, Osterloh stated that “you’ll see them [the Fitbit team] construct wearables on Wear OS in the future,” and that the team is “hard at work” on the project – although it’s unclear whether Osterloh was talking to the Rohan watch or another future device.

The Google Pixel Watch Price

If the Pixel watch costs more than Fitbit’s existing portfolio of goods, it will be significantly more expensive than the USD 299 price tag, as reported by The Verge. The smartwatch launch, which was originally scheduled to coincide with the Pixel 6, has been postponed. A release date for the Pixel watch has been set for 2022.

Variety of Colors and Styles

Following a leak by Evan Blass in 2018, it was revealed that the Pixel-branded watch will be available in three different flavors: “Ling,’ “Triton,” and “Sardine.” These names are drawn from the German translations for the marine creatures “ling,” “conch,” and “sardine.”

However, the watch, which was supposed to debut alongside the Pixel 3 series and use the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100 CPU, didn’t materialize as planned.

It has been reported that the watches will have a metal case around the face and a dial, according to the technology news site YouTube Front Page Tech. Google has not published a formal remark on the matter at this time.
